BEST ADVENTURE STORY
THE ICE PRINCESS,
GENERAL HOSPITAL

As corny as this story may have seemed--it's hard to forget muu-muu-clad Laura rushing around an island with a shirtless Luke in an effort to prevent Mikos [sic] Cassadine from freezing the world--it's a soap classic. Crazy adventures complete with location shoots, on-the-run couples, larger-than-life villains and theatrical heroics all began with what looked like a chunk of charcoal. Of course, that chunk was really the world's largest uncut diamond, and in the mounting was hidden a formula to "ice" the world, a formula Mikos was all too willing to use (why, we never discovered), starting with Port Charles. In a race to the finish, Luke battled the Cassadines (a battle that continues to this day), leaving both Mikos (we thought) and Tony dead. Luke confronted the mammoth weather machine that was already programmed to freeze the world (Port Charles was already six feet under...snow) and was stymied when the computer asked for a password. Frantically entering word after word, Luke finally typed P-R-I-N-C-E-S-S...and the machine ground to a halt. In a moment we'll never forget, Spencer spun around in his chair and let out a most Luke-like victory whoop. only on daytime!

The term action/adventure was coined long before Luke and Laura were created, but they made it a soap style all its own.

Two decades after their debut, Luke and Laura are still embroiled in swashbuckling stories.

[Ed. note: well, they almost never forgot. Luke actually stumbled on the word "ice," then realized there was more to the code. He finally came up with "Ice Princess." Then he did not spin around in his chair, but clomped his feet up on the desk, crossing them to sit leaning back, very pleased with himself indeed.]
