Millions of viewers watched teary-eyed
as Luke and Laura became husband and wife. Below is an excerpt of their touching
wedding ceremony.
Mayor: Today is a day of
joyous celebration. With love in our hearts we are here to witness the exchange
of marriage vows of Lucas Lorenzo Spencer and Laura Webber Baldwin. But we are
doing more than that. We are celebrating life itself. The two young people before
us, through their love for one another, remind us what it is that makes life precious
to all of us: love, loyalty, courage. Together, in the face of extreme danger
to themselves, they overcame powerful forces that sought to destroy Port Charles
and its people and the entire world. We call Luke and Laura heroes--that they
are indeed. But more importantly, they are the children of our whole community--we
love them, we care about them, we admire and respect them. And I know I am speaking
for every one of you when I say, Luke and Laura, it is with great admiration and
affection that we share with you today the joy of this, your wedding. Dear friends,
we have gathered together in the sight of God to join this man and this woman
in holy matrimony...
Luke: I, Lucas Lorenzo Spencer,
take thee Laura Webber Baldwin to be my lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold,
from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness
and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part. And thereto, unto
thee, I pledge my troth.
Laura: I, Laura Webber Baldwin,
take thee Lucas Lorenzo Spencer, to be my lawful wedded husband, to have and to
hold, from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness
and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part. And thereto, unto
thee, I pledge my troth.
Mayor: For as much as Luke
and Laura have consented together in holy wedlock and have witnessed the same
before God and this company and thereto have given and pledged their troth each
to the other and have declared the same by giving and receiving a ring and by
joining hands. By the power vested in me by the authority of the state of New
York, I pronounce that they are husband and wife.
The best man had a dreadful hangover.
The groom was a trifle nervous. But once the two men climbed into their antique
car, the importance of this day hit them--Lucas Lorenzo Spencer was finally getting
hitched.
The bridal party awaited the arrival
of the bride-to-be with bated breath. Everyone looked absolutely stunning. As
the strains of the Wedding March accompanied Rick and Laura, onlookers wiped the
tears from their eyes.
A PERFECT WEDDING...ALMOST
Lesley, the beaming mother of the
bride was escorted to her place by usher Joe Kelly.
The happy couple cut their wedding
cake.
Sharing in their happiness are Mrs.
Whittaker and Robert.
For one brief, fleeting moment Luke
& Laura's special day was ruined. Scotty returned to Port Charles with a bang.
He spoiled the joy by catching the bridal bouquet and stating, "There is no marriage!"
Luke responded by jumping from the balcony and decking Scotty. He comforts his
new wife.
It was a real down home western affair.
Everyone joined hands and did a Virginia Reel to the knee-slapping music of a
country band. Laura, looking radiant, greeted her guests with a smile.
Bobbi feels a love for her big brother
that can't be put into words. Often she and Ruby will sit down with Luke and try
and talk some sense into his head.
Luke convinced her that he loved
Laura even when she hurt him deeply.
