On the Set of Daytime's "Royal Wedding"

For all you viewers out there who were entranced watching the fairy-tale wedding of "GH's" star-crossed lovers, Luke and Laura, Soap Opera Digest has garnered some interesting facts about the behind-the-scenes production.

140 cast and crew members were assembled on the grounds of a replica 17th-century Norman-French chateau in an exclusive private community in Los Angeles. The original plans would have required 250 extras plus cast and crew, but the enclave's homeowners association insisted on limiting the number to 140, creating a scheduling nightmare.

The crew went as far away as Colorado to gather the oak leaves that were woven with fruit, maple leaves, ferns, flowers and gourds to make autumnal garlands adorning the chateau and gazebo where the ceremony was held.

As you know, the townspeople of Port Charles and Beecher's Corner brought their favorite recipes to the wedding for a country style pot-luck. To give it a homemade look, all of the food--which included fresh fish and oyster stew, salads, casseroles, Cornish game hens, homegrown turkeys, cakes, candies, and jam--was cooked by Art Director Jim Ellingwood's crew. Some "GH" fans even joined in the celebration by baking homemade bread for the occasion.

And to heighten the drama of this unprecedented event, one of the world's most celebrated and beautiful actresses, Elizabeth Taylor, made a special appearance at the wedding. Miss Taylor portrayed Helena Cassadine, the bereaved widow of Mikos Cassadine, the menacing villain who almost destroyed Port Charles. --CT

If ace driver Slick (Eddie Ryder) doesn't quit showing off his expertise with this classy chassy (a 1909 Studebaker Flanders), groom Luke (Tony Geary), and best man Robert (Tristan Rogers), just might be late for the wedding.

Here comes the bride! Laura (Genie Francis), looking absolutely radiant, is escorted by her proud dad, Dr. Rick Webber (Chris Robinson).

At the altar, the minister and best man are all smiles as the bride approaches. And Luke...his expression tells all. He's never seen Laura look so beautiful!

(From left to right): Slick, Joe Kelly (Douglas Sheehan), Bobbie Spencer (Jackie Zeman), Tiffany (Sharon Wyatt) and Claudia (Bianca Ferguson). And whose back is that in that chic metallic ensemble? Another luminary--none other than makeup artist for "GH," P.K. Cole.

It looks like all of Port Charles has turned out for the ceremony. There's the bride's joyful mom and dad, Lesley and Rick, in the foreground.

Time to cut the cake. Too much excitement probably for the bride and groom to be hungry.

Finally--the day all of Port Charles has awaited! As hundreds of well-wishers watch, Rick (Chris Robinson), the solemn father of the bride, walks his ecstatic daughter down the aisle to take her vows.

Can you guess who's going to catch the bouquet? Will it be Amy Vining (Shell Kepler),--she does look worried. Or will it be bridesmaid Bianca, Tiffany or Bobbie who might be altar-bound next?
Luke can hardly believe the magic moment has arrived when Laura will become Mrs. Lucas Lorenzo Spencer. The happy couple clasp hands for the traditional marriage vows.
And the reception is about to begin! It's under the bridge for Luke and Laura as the guests get ready for the festivities.

Hey, go to it guys--this is one party where Joe Kelly and Bobbie really let their hair down.

Will Laura honor her new husband with the first dance? The bride melts into Luke's arms.

Even the Quartermaines are having a grand time at the wedding. Lila (Anna Lee) is delighted as she and her son Alan (Stuart Damon) watch the dancing.
