Tony answered questions in these excerpts from an on-line chat about the Daytime Emmys on the TV Guide website on April 2, 1997. There are also questions and answers from Michael Logan, the host, and Maurice Benard.

TV Guide On-Line Chat with Emmy Nominees
hosted by Michael Logan

Jenn_M: Logan, what do you think the chances are that Geary and Francis will both win? What a moment that would be!
Logan: I think there's an excellent chance, and boy, would that be soap history!

Logan: Welcome, Maurice, and congratulations. Maurice, your nomination is deeply deserved. But the big question is, why the supporting category?
Maurice: Good question. Well, it wasn't the kind of year that warranted a lead actor thing for me, so I decided to go to supporting.
Logan: But we think of you as a lead.
Maurice: But I just felt like a supporting character. Also, I felt Tony had such a great shot and had such a great year. I didn't want to go toe-to-toe.

Logan: Next up, the man himself, Tony Geary! OK, Congratulations Mr. Geary! I was personally going to wring your neck if you didn't put yourself on the ballot this year. Why have you been so Emmy-shy?
Tony: Well first, Mr. Logan, I must thank you for your encouraging me to put myself on this year, although I would have done it anyway. It was a big boost to have you so confident. I didn't put myself in for the last four years because I didn't think I had any work that was appropriate for Emmy consideration. It was as simple as that. This year is different. This year I had the opportunity to regain some acting territory that I think I've missed.
Logan: You have chemistry with absolutely everybody. What's that about?
Tony: I think we have an extraordinary group of actors on the show at the present time. The nominations, not only my own... it's like my whole acting family is there. It's not too hard to have chemistry with people who are cooking. I don't want to sound self-deprecating, because that's not my style, but I think chemistry has to do with listening--listening to the character and the actor as the character and just really being open to all the realities, not just the reality offered by the script.
India: First of all, I'm rooting for you and Genie to take home Emmys this year. Next, I have to tell you how much I have enjoyed the Luke and Carly scenes.
Tony: Thank you. I've really enjoyed the Carly scenes as well. I'm very happy that Sarah has been nominated in the younger actress category. She's very exciting to work with, and Luke's connection to Carly is a unique one.
dayna: Tony, do you think that the writers will ever pair you with any one other than Genie Francis? You have a definite spark with Alexis.
Tony: Well, they have paired Luke in the past, not terribly successfully. I think that Luke Spencer can flirt with anybody. I think he's a serious flirt, but as kind of wild he is in other areas of his life, this is a one-woman man, and Laura's his woman. I wouldn't be terrifically excited about them putting Luke with anybody else--apart from flirting. I think Luke and Lucy have an interesting relationship. The sexuality is close to the surface there, but they're not going to sleep with each other as long as this man has Laura.
brandon: Tony, what's it like to have you, Genie and Jonathan all nominated in the same year?
Tony: That was fantastic. That's what's made me the happiest today. I found out about my nomination and the first person I called was Jonathan, who I knew wouldn't be up, but I spoke with his mother, and I told her as the father of the acting family I was standing very proud today. I think it would have been weird if we hadn't all been nominated. It's Genie's first and Jonathan's second, and it's particularly sweet that it's all three of us. I think if there had been a category for infants, LuLu would have been in there, too.
Sonja: Hi Tony! Congratulations! I loved the line you had a few days ago, when you spoke all those languages! I wish we'd see a lot more of Luke's intellectual side, not just his tough side! Any chance?
Tony: Sure, there's always room for that. :) I'm learning several languages and speak pieces of several languages. For example, I could work as an actor in Holland, as long as I can play very small children.
Logan: Thanks, Tony, and by the way, great haircut.
Tony: Thank you. I finally dragged myself into this century. I had to go to Europe to do it, though. :)

Vanessa: Logan, picks for actor, actress, show and the supporting categories?
Logan: Yes, Tony, Genie, Maurice, Vanessa and for the best soap, DAYS. Juuuuuuuust kidding, GH of course! I also think Sarah Brown and Jonathan Jackson will win in the kiddie categories. I predict a clean sweep.

Vanessa: Logan, Tony's hair is great, but don't you think he should shave it all off?
Logan: A bald Tony? I don't think I'm ready for that. Let's quit while we're ahead.
